David Dexter Associates were commissioned to undertake detail design of all secondary steelwork structure to support the 40,000m2 ETFE roof of the Fisht Olympic Stadium.
The stadium is the focal point of the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics. The opening, closing and medal ceremonies will take place in the stunning stadium. The lightweight ETFE and secondary steelwork of the roof was the best possible solution to meet and succeed the complex construction and maintenance needs required by the architect.
Fisht Stadium’s legacy will continue far beyond the Sochi Olympics, the Paralymics Games are to follow and the FIFA World Cup games in 2018. The sustainable design and use of materials such as ETFE will warrant the stadium a positive addition to the surrounding landscape.
