Eltham College, UK.

The junior school at Eltham College has been extended and refurbished as part of an ongoing upgrade to the campus.

The work included extensive renovation of the existing 18th century building, demolition of 1960’s interventions, new classrooms and a semi circular hall.

DDA designed a number of different structural solutions for the various enclosures including diaphragm walls and timber trusses for the new hall, glulaminated timber beams for the classrooms and ETFE roof lights for the corridor. At first floor level the extension was partly supported on existing walls and a concrete first floor transfer structure. Existing walls were underpinned where required.
